Albrecht Beutelspacher | 20. November 2007Der fundamentalste Begriff der Analysis ist der Begriff der Konvergenz einer Folge. Er ist nicht einfach. Das zeigt auch meine Erfahrung aus vielen Prüfungen. Manche können den Begriff nur sehr grob umschreiben, manche können die formale Definition - aber es mangelt an Einsicht. Und viele können es natürlich richtig.
Im Buch stelle ich mir vor, dass man sich der formalen Definition annähert. Und zwar in vielen kleinen Schritten. Bei jedem Schritt wird nicht nur der Zuwachs an Exaktheit erkennbar, sondern vor allem der Zuwachs an Einsicht und Präzision.
Hier ist ein erster Entwurf:
Eine Zahlenfolge konvergiert, wenn sie einen Grenzwert hat.
Wenn man schon wüsste, was ein Grenzwert ist, dann wäre das eine Definition. So ist es bestenfalls ein erster Schritt zum Verständnis.
Eine Zahlenfolge konvergiert, wenn sie sich ihrem Grenzwert immer weiter nähert.

Eine Zahlenfolge konvergiert, wenn gilt: Wie klein man auch immer einen Abstand ε wählt, ab einem gewissen n haben alle Folgenglieder an einen kleineren Abstand als ε vom Grenzwert.
Jetzt wird der Abstand ε benannt.
Eine Folge von Zahlen an konvergiert gegen einen Grenzwert a, wenn gilt: Wie klein man auch immer einen Abstand ε wählt, ab einer gewissen Zahl N gilt: |an - a| < ε für alle n > N.
Jetzt wird auch präzise gesagt, ab welcher Nummer (nämlich N) der Folgenglieder der vorgegebene Abstand unterschritten wird.
Eine Folge von Zahlen an konvergiert gegen einen Grenzwert a, wenn gilt: Für alle ε > 0 gibt es ein N, so dass |an - a| < ε für alle n > N gilt.
Das ist die endgültige Definition. Bei dieser kommt auch die Abhängigkeit von ε und N zum Ausdruck: Das N hängt von ε ab und kann nicht unabhängig gewählt werden.
Beachten Sie außerdem, mit welchem genialen Trick man das “beliebig nahe” präzise formulieren kann: “Für alle ε > 0“.

Ein interessanted Beispiel. Ich werde meinem Sohn empfehlen sich das Beispiel mal anzusehen. Es wird interessant sein, was er dazu sagt.
Ich habe mir dann gleich mal in der Wikipedia angesehen, wie dort Konvergenz dargestellt wird. Wenn man sich ein bisschen mit Mathematik auskennt, ist der Begriff dort sicher auch nach etwas nachdenken nachvollziehbar, obiger Ansatz sicher schneller und intuitiver zu verstehen. Was mir in der Ableitung oben fehlen würde (aber da es sich nur um einen Ausschnitt handelt, wäre das sicher dabei), wozu ich das überhaupt brauche. Das ist die Erfahrung, die ich mit Studenten gemacht habe, dass ihnen oft überhaupt nicht klar ist, wozu man bestimmte Begriffe, Methoden überhaupt benötigt (ok, ich habe in den letzten Jahren Touristik-Studenten unterrichtet…).
Wunderbar würde ich finden, wenn so ein “Buch” Wikipedia artig funktionieren könnte. Das Hin- und Herspringen zwischen Definitionen etc. halte ich für essentiell, weil einem beim Lesen von bestimmten Definitionen dann oft ein Begriff zwar “in etwa” klar ist, aber eben doch nicht 100% klar. Da ist die Wikipedia klasse…
Mir ist schon klar, dass in einem Buch so etwa sehr schwer möglich ist. Aber vielleicht können Sie ja auch ein CD-ROM (hmm, veraltet) o.ä. dazu beistellen (oder ein eBook?).

P(n) für fast alle = P(n) gilt für alle bis auf endlich viele = das Gegenteil von schliesslich
sauber definieren…

Wichtig ist, dass man nicht aus dem Auge verlieren darf, dass man für “Analysisanfänger” schreibt.
Natürlich wäre die Eigenschaftsdefinition exakter, nur sind die Studenten dann vielleicht etwas verunsichert, da das neue Thema Folgen nun noch mit einer Funktion verknüpft wird.
Wenn der einleitende Abschnitt zu Folgen inhaltlich beherrscht wird, kann man das Thema etwas “aufblähen”, damit die Konzentration gezielter eingesetzt werden kann.
